It’s come to our attention that two of the bills passed in the NM legislature – and subsequently signed into law by our governor – pose a particular threat to two ministries churches offer.

FOOD BANKS / FOSTER CARE MINISTRIES
Churches with a food bank, foster care ministry, or any service funded in part or whole by the state of New Mexico are threatened by House Bill 207 Expand Human Rights Act Scope

For churches with those types of ministries, you will lose the freedom to make decisions regarding those who do not hold the same religious beliefs. Example: A church contracts with the government to provide foster care placement, but refuses to place children in the homes of same-sex or transgender couples, which will be in violation of this bill.

PRO-LIFE ADVOCATES
All Pro-Life individuals, groups, and organizations are now at serious risk due to Senate Bill 13 Reproductive Health Provider Protections.

This law strips freedom of speech from ANY individual or entity in New Mexico that helps educate someone on the dangers of abortion or transgender services. It prohibits any electronic communication intended to deter a “protected health activity” such as abortion and transgender procedures.

Realistically, this law will silence all pro-life emails, social media posts, blog articles, or websites. Those who continue this means of communication will find themselves fighting litigation to practice their freedom of speech in New Mexico.

The Referendum Project

While we consider prayer to be our first and most vital effort, we read in James 2:20 that “faith without works is dead.” So we continue this fight to save New Mexico and its people as the Lord leads us.
