Understanding Emerge America’s Influence in New Mexico

Many voters focus only on the names on the ballot. But behind many campaigns are well-funded organizations working year-round to recruit candidates, train activists, and influence public policy in New Mexico.

Emerge America is a nonprofit organization founded in 2005 that recruits and trains progressive/socialist Democrat women to run for public office. Its programs focus on campaign strategy, fundraising, communications, networking, and leadership development.

EA has an aggressive policy that moves states towards socialism. It drafts uniform legislation that is harmful to society, such as the Immigrant Friendly Act, which puts illegal immigrants’ rights above citizens’ rights. EA also unnecessarily strives to increase taxes and impose environmental regulations that go beyond helping the environment to hurting businesses and the ability to create jobs.

According to Emerge New Mexico (ENM), the organization has trained more than 500 women in New Mexico, with approximately 140 currently serving in elected office. These officials are well-positioned to advance the organization’s political priorities throughout state and local government.

And when elected officials oppose those priorities, these political networks often work aggressively to remove them in future elections. But elections are still decided by voters, not political organizations.

An informed and engaged public has the power to stop policies that continue holding New Mexico back from reaching its full potential.
